TMAC Successfully Hosts the 2025 AMAA Forum, Advancing Regional Collaboration in Medical Education Accreditation
The Taiwan Medical Accreditation Council (TMAC) successfully organized the 2025 Asian Medical Accreditation Agencies Forum (AMAA Forum) from March 5 to 6, 2025, at the Grand Hyatt Taipei. The forum was held under the theme:
“Shaping the Future of Medical Education: Navigating Challenges and Advancing Excellence in Quality Assurance.”
TMAC had the great honor of welcoming Professor Ricardo León-Bórquez, President of the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), and Dr. John Norcini, President Emeritus of the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER), as keynote speakers. In addition, the forum featured the active participation of the Presidents of Western Pacific Association for Medical Education (WPAME) and South-East Asia Regional Association for Medical Education (SEARAME).
Over 60 experts in medical education and accreditation gathered at the forum, including representatives from WFME-recognized accreditation agencies in Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Indonesia, as well as Professor Dujeepa D. Samarasekera of the National University of Singapore, and domestic experts with extensive experience in accreditation site visits. Together, they engaged in in-depth discussions on trends, challenges, and opportunities in medical education quality assurance across Asia.
Keynote sessions addressed the global evolution of accreditation practices, emphasizing a shift from quality assurance to quality enhancement. Speakers advocated for a responsible and evidence-based adoption of AI and data technologies to strengthen accreditation decision-making, while also highlighting the importance of research and dissemination related to accreditation outcomes.
The program featured:
-
Seven country/regional presentations from accreditation agencies in Asia
-
One plenary panel discussion
-
Three themed roundtable sessions, covering topics such as digital transformation, contextualization of standards, and equity in medical education.
A central highlight was the plenary panel titled “Global Standards, Local Practice: Cross-Border Collaboration in Medical Education Accreditation,” where leaders from WFME, WPAME, SEARAME, and FAIMER jointly explored how to balance international standards with local educational and healthcare contexts. The session underscored the need for regional cooperation, mutual recognition frameworks, evaluator development, and policy alignment with workforce planning.
Through this forum, TMAC not only strengthened its ties with regional partners but also reaffirmed Taiwan’s commitment and leadership in advancing medical education quality in the Asia-Pacific. The outcomes of the forum pave the way for the continued institutionalization of the AMAA Forum and the development of a collaborative network for accreditation in Asia.
To provide a closer look at the atmosphere and highlights of the two-day forum, TMAC has also produced a slideshow of the 2025 AMAA Forum highlight photos, which is available for direct viewing — simply click here.
With the speakers' consent, the presentation slides from each session have been compiled into PDF files and are now available for public viewing and download, pplease refer to the attachments.
