Professor Yu-Wen Chen obtained her Ph.D. degree from the School of Social Work, Washington University in St. Louis in 1996, and in the same year, joined the department of sociology, division of social work (now the department of social work) at the National Taiwan University. She has a substantial amount of administrative experience, including the associate director and director of the Center for Teaching and Learning Development at the National Taiwan University, and the chief executive at the Second Northern Taiwan Teaching Resource Center, funded by the Ministry of Education. She also served as the chair of the Department of Social Work, and the Associate Dean of the College of Social Sciences. In addition, she served as the member or reviewer for many task force groups or advisory committees in the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. She has contributed a lot to the development of social welfare and higher education policies.

She won numerous teaching awards for her great performance and passion in education and research. Her devotion to advising students was also recognized by the Ministry of Education, so she was awarded as the Excellent Advisor offered by the First Northern Division in 2021. She has published many journal articles, both in English and Chinese. In recent years, she has engaged in the international collaborative research project, which focused on examining the subjective well-being of children in 35 countries. She is also in charge of two interdisciplinary projects by using the AI technique to promote better social policies for child protection and children in poverty. These indicated her great devotion to interdisciplinary and international work for promoting qualities in education and social work professions.
