On April 26 2024, an academic workshop was convened and chaired by Prof. Dr. Angela Yung-Chi Hou, Adjunct Research Fellow of HEEACT and Professor at the Department of Education, National Chengchi University. Prof. Dr. Bjørn Stensaker from University of Oslo, Norway and Prof. Dr. Jung Cheol Shin from Seoul National University were invited to share their insights into global trends in higher education. Students from the Department of Education, National Chengchi University also participated.

The workshop focused on two main themes--Global Trends in Higher Education, Quality Assurance and Qualifications Framework and Student Involvement in Internal Quality Assurance (IQA). During the workshop, Prof. Dr. Bjørn Stensaker and Prof. Dr. Jung Cheol Shin each provided their perspectives and cases of good practices with us. Regarding the development of qualifications framework (QF), Prof. Dr. Bjørn Stensaker emphasized that it is important for governments and QA agencies to consider the needs and purposes of QF.  Dr.  Stensaker also discussed issues about student representatives and introduced two major types of student involvement: legal involvement and public-interest involvement. Compared with the European models, Prof. Dr. Jung Cheol Shin shared with us that the idea of student involvement in IQA is rather conservative in South Korea due to its cultural contexts.

The workshop facilitated a fruitful exchange of ideas among the participants, including cases of practices from Europe and South Korea. More importantly, the insights shared during the workshop serve as valuable references for future research and development of strategies in higher education.
