Since 2017, the Ministry of Education (MOE) has launched the Support System for University Teachers’ Teaching Practice Research and enacted the Directions for the Ministry of Education Subsidizing the Teaching Practice Research Program for Universities. For the implementation of the Teaching Practice Research Program, the Project Office for the Review of Teaching Practice Research Programs and the Facilitation of Multiple Pathways for Faculty Promotion was established in August 2017, and the submissions began in December of the same year.

Since 2022, the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEEACT) has taken over this program. The goals are to encourage higher education providers to continue to invest resources and to promote universities to align their development with the international higher education reform movement of “Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, SoTL” through the MOE Teaching Practice Research Program. This program will assist teachers in deepening their professional development and facing teaching work with a research-oriented spirit, ultimately enhancing teaching quality and student learning outcomes. At the same time, by promoting various measures and gathering principles, valuable experiences, and research results, it also provides a long-term support system for university teachers to both sustain their professional impact on university classrooms and align with the policy goals of multiple pathways for faculty promotion.
