2024 INQAAHE 14th Biennial Forum
From June 10th to 12th 2024, INQAAHE 14th Biennial Forum took place at the National University of Science and Technology Politehnica Bucharest in Romania, organized by the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS). The theme of the forum was “Transforming Society: Social Responsibility through Quality Assurance of Tertiary Education” featuring a mix of keynote speeches, design-thinking workshops, roundtable discussions and networking activities. Six delegates from HEEACT participated in the event, led by Prof. Dr. Chia-Yu Chang, Director of Quality Assurance and Projects Office and Prof. Dr. Angela Yung-Chi Hou, Adjunct Research Fellow of HEEACT and Professor at National Chengchi University.
To actively engage with international QA agencies and share national policies and related SDGs initiatives in Asia and Taiwan with other QA communities across regions, HEEACT endeavored to hold a workshop at the Forum on June 12th. The workshop represented an opportunity for HEEACT to showcase Taiwan’s good practices of SDGs implementation from QA and universities’ perspectives and to further exchange viewpoints with QA experts and agencies.
This workshop centered on “From INQAAHE GGP to ISGs: How HEEACT Translates International Goals into Domestic Higher Education Institutions' Practical Actions.” Prof. Dr. Angela Yung-Chi Hou initiated the workshop by sharing current status and insights on global higher education and QA, including diversification, inclusiveness and sustainability, encompassing major global trends and challenges. Prof. Dr. Chia-Yu Chang then elaborated on Taiwan’s policies in terms of MoE’s actions and goals and its SDGs initiatives for HEIs. Lastly, Research Fellow of HEEACT, Dr. Jackson Chun-Chi Chih specifically presented two cases of Taiwanese HEI adopting different SDGs strategic plans to pursue USR and sustainability and how they addressed issues and challenges. Our team guided participants through the process of a design-thinking workshop, facilitating group discussions to share and exchange experiences and outcomes. The workshop received enthusiastic feedback and was a great success.
In a nutshell, through this forum, HEEACT connected and interacted with QA agencies from around the world. In addition to sharing Taiwan's experiences, we also absorbed insights from different countries and engaged in profound dialogues and exchanges. These interactions laid the groundwork for future collaboration and highlighted the contributions and visibility of Taiwan's higher education in the international community.
